About the Competition

Spelling Rumble is a structured online spelling competition designed for both private and public schools. It tests spelling accuracy, vocabulary strength, and language mastery through progressive elimination stages conducted almost entirely online.

Competition Stages

Stage 1 – Preliminary (FREE)
Date: Wed 25, Feb

Begin the SR journey by registering learners for the entry (online spelling) test. This stage is free and serves as the screening round where pupils listen to simple audio sentences and type answers.
Here, no study words required.

YOU CAN NOT REGISTER LESS THAN TEN (10) BUT YOU CAN REGISTER AS MUCH AS YOU WANT.

Stage 2 – Quarter Final (PAID)
Date: Wed 4, Mar

Eligible pupils proceed only after paid confirmation by their schools, at N4,500 (a-one-time payment) per candidate. 10% discount available for every 10 learners registered. Access is strictly controlled.
From this stage onward, pupils enjoy various digital assets:

1. Official E-certificate (downloadable)
2. Access to Practice Word Lists
3. Performance Analytics or Ranking
4. Leaderboard Access

Stage 3 – Semi Final
Date: Wed 11, Mar

Advanced spelling challenges for top performers. Increased difficulty and stricter grading.

Stage 4 – Grand Final
Date: Sat 21, Mar

Final is going to be an Onsite Spelling Showdown to determine winners and overall champions. It is going to come up in Lagos, at a centralized location. Details will be shared as the competition progresses.

Only schools can register pupils. Individual or parent registrations ARE NOT VALID. (Such payment not refundable)

Access

Qualification from Stage 1 makes a pupil eligible, but access to Stage 2 is granted only after payment.

Payment Confirmation

Schools confirm payment via a dedicated online form. Only activated candidates receive test access.

QUARTER-FINAL

COMING UP FRI 14 FEB, 2025
This level is for learners that qualified from the ENTRY stage. This level will be more challenging as learners will write longer sentences using longer words. To proceed, interested learners will have to enroll with a one-time continuation fee of N5,000.

NOTE: There is NO MINIMUM number of student you can lock-in.
GET FIVE PERCENT (5%) REDUCTION FOR EVERY FIVE (5) STUDENTS LOCKED-IN
This is FEE is “None Refundable”

SEMI-FINAL

COMING UP FRI 28 FEB, 2025
This level is for learners that made through the quarter-final stage This stage may be skipped depending on the number of contestants that qualify from the quarter-final. Should we decide to go on with this stage, then, the quarter-final structure would be used, except that the questions will be stepped up.

FINAL (Onsite)

COMING UP SAT 8 MAR, 2025. (TENTATIVELY)
This is the last stage where the winners will be determined. It is going to be done onsite in Lagos at a centralized location. Details will be shared as the competition progresses.

Finalist will acquire a branded but subsidized t-shirt.

The Rules of the competition

Breaking Ties

Tie breaking will only be applicable to the final day.

Close ties will be broken using Oral Spelling of words but with new set of words, outside the study words.

Disqualification

Pupils will be disqualified if:

He/She is above the required age. But, there is no under age.
Involved in any form singular malpractice or in the accomplice of the teacher.
He/She/School becomes an unbearable disturbance during competition.

Marking

All the online test will be auto-marked.

Marking Down

Participants will be marked wrong if:

Words are badly written or typed. For example not beginning with capital letter, putting capital letter amidst small letters etc
All letters are in CAPITAL LETTER
Punctuation mark is omitted where necessary

Participation

You MUST register at least 10 learner. But, no limit to the maximum
Entry form will be closed Feb 20, 2026.
School Teacher must NOT interfere with the learners activity online/onsite.

Qualification

The organizing team scrutinizes the overall score and decide the cut off mark.

After 24hrs, the contestants should check if eligible, qualified or not, on our website.

Our Rights

By registering with us, we reserve the right to use your school and leaners pictures and videos collected, before, during and after the competition, online or onsite, for promotional purpose.
2. We reserve the right to disqualify any school or contestant at any stage if we are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that such school or leaner defaults or is constituting nuisance to the competition.

The Rumble

During Rumble, contestants will listen to audio file and type the sentences one after the other.

Test Room Setup

We recommend that schools use their ICT or CBT room while participation in the competition online. These facilities help the learners to concentrate and avoid distractions from classroom.
Where these are not available, please designate a classroom for the learners to take the test on the set dates.

Gadgets Needed are:

1. Laptop, Desktop or Tablet (Recommended)

2. Phone can also be used (Children must practice adequately with the phone before test date)

3. Reliable Internet

4. Earphone or Headphone (This will prevent audio interference during test)

NOTE: Learners MUST practice with these gadget to get acclimatized with them.
